President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday has warned that his government would no longer tolerate killings and kidnapping by hoodlums. He also vowed that those involved in the murder of innocent persons would be made to face the wrath of the law. He explained that the rise in the level of violent crimes across Nigeria was having a negative impact on national development. The President, who spoke in Port Harcourt while declaring open the 9th General Assembly of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, said he was saddened by the killings in Nigeria. The Independent National Electoral Commission, has stated that apart from giving physical copies of results of the 2019 elections to party agents, it will also be announcing the results electronically. The commission said the same mechanism would be used in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections in July and September, respectively. The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this when he visited the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, in Abuja on Tuesday. Yakubu said, “We are planning for full deployment (of electronic and manual transmission) this year in governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun. Thereafter we intend to deploy the system in the 2019 general elections. “INEC has developed the hardware and software. However, we rely on the operators for the transmission of both the figures and scanned images of result sheets. We wish to assure Nigerians that while we transmit the raw figures from polling units,

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has challenged the All Progressives Congress, APC, to submit the recommendations of the 2014 national conference report to the National Assembly before 2019, if truly they are serious on restructuring the country. The immediate past Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu is dead. According to Thisday, Tinubu who is also a former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, slumped and died while playing football at the retreat organised for Lagos Commissioners and Special Advisers with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode present at the event in Epe. The family and associates in sports circle confirmed his death. Tinubu, who was certified healthy during the screening carried out before the start of the novelty game, suddenly collapsed and died. The game was aimed at ensuring none of the government officials had such misfortune. Until his death Thursday, Tinubu was Gov Ambode’s special adviser on commerce. He was moved from sports to commerce during the cabinet shake up carried out just recently.
